Meta Unveils Own Brand Smart Glasses, Undercuts Ray-Ban Pricing
Meta launches its first self-branded smart glasses, the Adventurer, Fury, and Starfire, starting at $299, undercutting previous Ray-Ban models and signaling a direct challenge to Apple's anticipated entry into the category.
Meta has introduced its first smart glasses sold under its own name, bypassing the Ray-Ban and Oakley branding that defined its earlier wearable lineup. The new Adventurer and Fury models are priced at $299, a full $80 less than the second-generation Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer released last year. A third model, the Starfire, was designed in collaboration with Kylie Jenner and retails for $399, featuring a slimmer oval shape, a gemstone on the lens, and a metal nose pad resistant to makeup residue. Despite Meta's in-house design, EssilorLuxottica—parent company of Ray-Ban and Oakley—manufactures the glasses, with its logo appearing alongside Meta's on the temple arms and packaging.
All three styles incorporate a three-way adjustable nose pad, adjustable temple tips, and overextension hinges to accommodate wider head shapes. Between the Adventurer and Fury alone, Meta offers 26 color and lens combinations, including tortoise, black, and green finishes, with transition, polarized, and clear lens options. The glasses support prescription lenses with a power range from -12 to +2.25. Hardware specifications mirror the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2: a 12-megapixel camera, 3K video capture, a five-microphone array, and eight-hour battery life, with the charging case providing an additional 40 hours. A separate charging stand is also available, compatible with both the new models and existing Ray-Ban and Oakley Meta lines.
The glasses ship with Meta's Muse Spark AI model, which improves response quality and adds 14 new languages to live translation support, bringing the total to 20. A new Dynamic Photo feature captures a burst of images and selects the best shot, while pedestrian turn-by-turn navigation is coming to the camera-equipped lineup. Meta has also hinted at a camera-free version focused on audio-only experiences, which could lower the price and enable new styles. Addressing Apple's anticipated smart glasses debut in 2027, Meta's Alex Himel acknowledged Apple as a formidable competitor, noting their hardware and design prowess, but expressed confidence in Meta's ability to compete.
