Steam Machine Pricing Raises Eyebrows

C1 · 22 июня · 1 мин

Valve's Steam Machine starts at $1,049 with 512GB storage and no controller, surprising gamers with its high cost.

Valve has finally unveiled the pricing for its much-anticipated Steam Machine, and it is significantly steeper than many had anticipated. The base model, equipped with a 512GB solid-state drive, will set buyers back at least $1,049. Notably, this price does not include a controller, which must be purchased separately. Such a high entry point may deter casual gamers, who might have expected a more affordable console-like experience.

The reservation system, which opened recently, has introduced additional complexities. Would-be purchasers must navigate strict rules and a randomized queue, adding an element of chance to the buying process. This approach, reminiscent of limited-edition releases, has left some consumers frustrated. Had Valve opted for a simpler pre-order system, the backlash might have been less severe.

Despite the premium pricing, the Steam Machine promises high-end performance and access to Steam's vast library of games. However, it remains to be seen whether the cost will be justified in the eyes of the gaming community. With competing consoles offering lower prices, Valve's gamble on a luxury PC gaming experience could either pay off handsomely or fall flat.
