New AI Agents and Tools Shape the Future of Work
From always-on agents to open source security, recent announcements show how AI is changing software development and enterprise operations.
At Build 2026, Microsoft introduced Scout, an always-on AI agent. Scout works on its own without needing a prompt each time. It uses the open-source framework OpenClaw and integrates with Work IQ. Microsoft also announced Windows platform security for AI agents with the MXC SDK.
GitLab 19.0 now uses agentic AI for secrets management, merge requests, and supply chain security. Azure Functions launched a serverless agents runtime in public preview. CircleCI released Chunk Sidecars to bring CI validation into AI coding workflows. These tools help developers work faster and more securely.
Chainguard started the Athena Coalition to use AI for finding and fixing vulnerabilities in open-source software. Estonia plans to give digital IDs to AI agents. Meanwhile, researchers warn that too many instructions in config files waste tokens. They advise developers to keep instructions simple for better agent performance.
