Apple Changes App Store Rules in Brazil
Apple now allows alternative app stores and payment systems in Brazil.
Apple has announced major changes to its App Store rules in Brazil. Developers can now distribute iPhone apps through alternative app marketplaces. They can also accept payments outside of Apple's system. These changes are part of a response to Brazil's competition regulator.
Alternative app marketplaces must be authorized by Apple and follow certain rules. Apps still on the App Store can use alternative payment methods or link to a website for transactions. However, Apple warns that these changes bring privacy and security risks, especially for children. The company has introduced safeguards like notarization and age restrictions.
Developers who use the App Store will pay a lower commission of up to 21% on digital goods. Some developers may pay as little as 10% through special programs. For apps distributed outside the App Store, there is a 5% fee called the Core Technology Commission. These new rules apply to iOS 26.5 and later, and developers must agree to updated terms by July 2026.
